unacceptable noise levelnonexistent soundproofing
the noise level in my room was unacceptable. i think my "twin room shower" was right above the bar, so i heard every thump and shout until late. then, early in the morning, some banging started. it seems they don't care about guests sleep because no soundproofing exists, .

lovely stay!

friendly servicecute atmospheregoats cheesegreat food
i enjoyed the friendly service a lot and the atmosphere was cute. the food choices seemed great. i really recommend the whipped goats cheese starter. i'm sad i was too full to sample the desserts.
the sirloin steak i ordered was slightly overdone. it came with one mushroom and some fries. for the price, this wasn't the best value. a vegetable side would have been good.
Facilities

this place caters well for locals, hikers and other tourists alike. the landlord and landlady have clearly worked hard to build a friendly atmosphere. sampling the local beers from thwaites seemed simple too.

the central location was perfect for us on my trip. i traveled from manchester to glasgow and stopped off here for a night. it is a short taxi ride off the route, but it's worth it.
Rooms
9/10
the room was lovely and the bathroom seemed very good. the shower had a good size and very neat place. period building styles may not match city centre hotel layouts, but i loved it.
Dining

the food was excellent and the evening meals were very good. the cod was particularly good, i ate it two nights in a row. the breakfast was huge, neither of us could finish the cooked breakfast provided.

the food was just ok. i wouldn't have thought fish and chips would be hard to cook. the batter on my fish was well overcooked. i was disappointed because i had been here several times before and it was always great.
